Timing chips & modules

Protempis line of multi GNSS receivers are designed specifically for integration on a circuit board using surface mount technology. When operating in Over Determined Timing Mode the accuracy of pulse per second (PPS) is within 15 nanoseconds of GNSS/UTC.

Protempis quality timing chips and modules currently include the ICM720T Multi GNSS, Mini-T GG, ICM SMT 360 Multi GNSS and the RES SMT 360 GG (last two available also on a carrier board).

Thunderbolt PTP Grandmaster Clock – GM200

The GM200 is designed for wireless networks requiring phase synchronization. It provides continuous availability of UTC traceable time for phase synchronization, a must for LTE-Advanced networks and services. The PTP GM200 can tolerate harsh environmental conditions supporting both indoors & outdoors deployments with extended operating temperature range.

  • Designed with small cells in mind but also meets Marco base station requirements for synchronization
  • Supports small cells networks that require phase synchronization
  • Given its low cost it can be added to any network requiring support for the stringent phase synchronization specifications that LTE-A services require performing at their optimal levels
  • The most efficient way to implement phase synchronization for LTE & LTE-A services is to deploy the grandmaster clock close to target eNodeBs to ensure 1.5 us of phase alignment
  • Suits this strategy perfectly due to its small size, low cost, superior accuracy & reliability and flexibility of deployment options

Thunderbolt® NTP Time Server – TS200

The TS200 is designed for demanding applications that require high accuracy NTP time stamping. It supports synchronization of thousands of workstations, routers, switches and other network elements for logging and security forensics. VOIP IPBX systems also require very accurate NTP timestamps to ensure CDR events are correctly registered and reported. The Thunderbolt NTP TS200 Time Server is certified NEBS standards for reliability.

ICM720 Multi-GNSS Timing Module

Secured Dual Band (L1/L5) GNSS Timing Module with Nanosecond Accuracy

 

Unparalleled accuracy to meet the stringent synchronization needs of the next-generation networks in various industry verticals including 5G X-Haul, Smart Grid, Data Center, SATCOM, Calibration Services and Industrial Automation applications.

With dual-band multi-constellation capability, ICM720 reduces the timing error under clear skies to 5 nano second without the need for an external GNSS correction service.

Provides higher power L5 signals (twice as much power as L1) with its greater bandwidth, and advanced signal design lowers the risk of interference and improves multi-path protection. Multi-band capability allows it to compensate for the ionosphere error while reducing the timing error under clear skies to few nanoseconds without further need for correction.

Thunderbolt E

The Protempis® Thunderbolt® E GPS Disciplined Clock is Trimble’s latest offering for GPS synchronization devices targeting the wireless infrastructure. This fifth-generation GPS clock combines a 12-channel GPS receiver, control circuitry, and a high-quality ovenized oscillator on a single board, providing increased integrity and reliability at a lower size and cost.

The Thunderbolt E’s level of integration makes it a perfect solution for precise timing applications in the wireless industry. Among its uses are synchronizing the E911 positioning infrastructure and maximizing bandwidth for wireless local loop. The architecture is comparable to systems currently used to maintain the tough CDMA holdover specification. This makes the Thunderbolt E GPS clock a natural for a CDMA clock, the digital standard for cellular phones.

Mini-T GG

The Protempis® Mini-T™ GG is a multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS) Disciplined Clock, optimized to generate precise timing signal. Designed specifically for compact, high-volume applications. When operating in Over Determined Timing Mode the accuracy of pulse per second (PPS) is within 15 nanoseconds of GNSS/UTC. Synchronization for next generation. Proven Reliability. The Mini-T™ GG gives OEMs the opportunity to embed a low-cost precise time and frequency reference, in our smallest form-factor yet.

Protempis created the Mini-T™ GG using clock technology proven in generations of deployed units used in 4G networks (LTE, WiMAX, HSPA+) and digital broadcasting applications. It utilizes the latest in GNSS technology, combined with a precision ovenized oscillator for near atomic clock precision timing.

ICM SMT 360™ Multi-GNSS

Protempis’s ICM SMT 360™ module is a multi-GNSS (GPS, GLONASS, BEIDOU and Galileo ready) receiver, optimized to generate precise timing signal. The ICM SMT 360™ is designed to cover the full spectrum of small cells – residential femtocell to rural microcell.

The ICM SMT 360™ generates pulse per second (PPS) and a precise 10MHz reference clock for synchronization of small cells.

ICM SMT 360 Multi GNSS on Carrier Board

Protempis’s Resolution SMTx on a Carrier Card is a significant new development in GPS architecture: Designed specifically for compact, high-volume applications, the Resolution SMTx shrinks its form factor to a surface mount package, about the same size as a postage stamp. With the same pulse per second (PPS) accuracy and timing features, the Resolution SMTx is the most cost-effective timing board ever produced by Protempis. The receiver is a full- featured, all-in-view, 12-channel, parallel tracking, embeddable GPS receiver designed to provide precise GPS or UTC time and synchronization for many static timing applications. The Resolution SMTx on a Carrier Card includes many of Protempis’s standard timing features, including the Timing Receiver Autonomous Integrity Monitoring (T-RAIM) algorithm, automatic self-survey.
